Tuesday Tidbit: Take Action

I just love this quote.
If you want to paint, sit at the easel.
If you want to write, sit at the computer.
If you want to play music, sit with the instrument.
And on and on. Why is this so hard to do sometimes? Even when we really, really want to do it? In coaching we call this “trouble at the border”. The border of bringing something we are picturing (the art piece, the book, the class, the new job etc.) into physical reality. Of course, this is something that means a lot to us and is something we want to accomplish but is maybe new or different so it stirs up the monkey mind (worry, doubt and fear).
Funny thing is that usually when we finally just do it, it flows and we think, jeeeeez why didn’t I just do it from the beginning? Hahahaha. Well, that is where we need to quiet the mind. Not let it talk us into things that aren’t true and are distracting. Try something simple like jumping jacks for a minute, breathing through the nose, focused on the breath, then stop and sit. You will have the buzz of energy and the chaotic thoughts will be gone but you have to act right then and there. Don’t wait. Take an action.
The action itself will build the muscle of just doing it. You know when you have something thrown at you and you have to just do it to get it done and then you surprise yourself, “wow, I can’t believe I pulled that off”. You realize that you didn’t have time to overthink it, the monkey mind couldn’t seep in. So, this week when you feel like you are talking yourself out of what you really want to do, take an action toward it and/or do some jumping jacks and then take the action. It works.
